Are You Worshiping Wrong? The Dangers of Misunderstanding Worship

Nov 17, 2024    Angel Escudero

Worship is not just a song or a prayer; it is a profound act of surrender. In my journey of leading worship for many years, I have come to realize that true worship begins with surrendering everything to God. This week, we delve into the essence of worship, exploring how it is rooted in spirit and truth. Many of us have experienced moments when God feels distant, and we struggle to connect with Him. It is during these times that we must remember that our feelings do not dictate God's character. He is always good, and He is enough. Worship is about acknowledging that truth, even when our circumstances cloud our vision.

As we explore John 4:23-24, we learn that true worshipers worship the Father in spirit and truth. This means we must approach God with authenticity, laying bare our hearts and acknowledging our struggles. I share a personal story about a moment with my son that reminded me of the beauty of worshiping God in simplicity and sincerity. It is not about how well we sing or how eloquently we pray; it is about the posture of our hearts.

In this sermon, I challenge you to reflect on what you are holding back from God. Are there areas in your life where you have not fully surrendered? True worship requires us to give everything to Him, including our fears, doubts, and even our anger. God desires a relationship with us that is built on trust and openness.

We also discuss the importance of understanding God as He truly is, rather than how we want Him to be. Worshiping in truth means accepting God's character and His ways, even when they challenge our understanding. As we navigate our faith, let us remember that we are called to be partners with God, not just employees. Our lives should reflect our worship, and everything we do can be an act of service to Him.

Join me as we unpack the heart of worship and discover how we can live lives that are fully surrendered to God. Let us embrace the truth that worship is not confined to a church service; it is a lifestyle that encompasses every moment of our lives. Together, we can learn to worship in spirit and in truth, experiencing the fullness of God's presence in our daily lives.
